DJ Mahealani at work!

                                        DJ Mahealani at work!

a.k.a. Miscellaneous friends and acquaintances who are awesome and deserve your business....

DJ Mahealani - Mahealani is uber professional and totally cool.  She DJ'd my 40th birthday party and brought the perfect mix of old, new, funk, and dance music to the event.  She is fantastic to work with!

Aaron Goldfarb - I recently worked with Aaron on a wedding as was impressed with his professionalism.  He has clearly worked weddings before and knows how to fade in and fade out and just generally go with the flow.  He's a really talented guitarist and I love that he snuck in a little Keane (one of my favorite bands!) to the usual wedding repertoire.

Terra Vista Strings - I've worked with these guys a few times and they are totally professional.  They know when to start, change tunes, fade out, etc.  They can play the classics (think:  Water Music, Pachelbel Canon, etc.) but also have a great range of contemporary material including a totally rockin' rendition of "Sweet Child 'o Mine" that will turn your ceremony "up to eleven".

Minor Mishap Marching Band - Does your event call for a MARCHING BAND?!  These guys are awesome. They can tailor their band to be big or small (depending on the scale of your wedding), they wear fun yellow and black stripes, and they bring the party with them.  Want to do a 2nd line march?  Walk down the aisle with a bass drum bang?  Check them out.

Austin Kimble - Austin is a great jazz and classical pianist.  We hired him to play my mother-in-law's 70th birthday party and basically said, "can you just start playing?" and he went with it.  He matched the vibe of the party perfectly and was really easy to work with.

Sharon Bourbonnais - Sharon is my daughter's piano teacher.  She's great.  She will bring a diverse skill set to your wedding.  She can sing, she can play piano, and she's fun.  Sharon plays anything from formal events to"Hippie Church" at Maria's Taco Xpresson Sundays.

Mariachi Relampago - Want to be super festive?  These guys are amazing.  They surprised my Dad at his 70th birthday and were SO fun.

Hylton Cruickshank / Austin Bagpiper - Yup.  Bagpipes.  I worked with Hylton at a recent event and he was a pro!  Showed up, tuned up, played the heck out of the bagpipes, posed for photos with guests, and was an all around good sport.  Something different for your day. (Although I don't know if he can play the Rod Stewart song from "So I Married an Axe Murderer".  I'll have to check!).

Kristen Gibbs - When I heard that a bride booked a harpist for her wedding, I admit, I pictured something cheesy.  Boy, was I wrong!  Kristen Gibbs rocked!  She can play the standards, of course, but what was super cool was that she also has an amazing voice.  She did Norah Jones' "Come Away With Me" and brought a tear to my eye ... and then took it to 11 with a kick butt harp version of Florence and the Machines' "The Dog Days are Over".   Awesome!

Word of Mouth Catering - Myra Adkins, general manager of Word of Mouth, is a longtime friend, consummate hostess, and party planner extraordinaire!  No detail is left unnoticed.  I'm constantly impressed by the creative approach that Word of Mouth brings to their events.  You can't go wrong.

Guiltless Goodies by Sylvia - I recently had some samples of Sylvia's cakes and what a treat!  She has a huge list of flavors, several can be done sugar-free (or low sugar) and a few are gluten-free.   They taste great (there's one with coconut in the frosting that was super yummy) and they're pretty to boot!  Sylvia knows all about fondant, gum paste, and all of that so she can make your vision come to life.  Sylvia is easy to work with and she will deliver your cake to your event.   Win/win!

Spoon & Co. - I used to work with Megan Schwartz, of Spoon & Co. Catering, ages ago.  I actually hired her to replace me for an event planning and catering job!  If I thought she could fill my shoes, she must be good.  (Kidding.)  Megan has started her own gig and does lovely work!

Di Lux Private Dining Events - This is my buddy Susan Shields' catering business.  After years of working at Austin's renowned Vespaio, she has gone out on her own.  Susan is terrific, her food is always delicious, and she will work hard to make your event special.

Torchy's Tacos - Want to do something a little different?  I hired Torchy's to cater my husband's birthday party and, man, did they deliver.  Green chile pork tacos?  Yes, please!  Smoky queso?  Sure!  They even loaned me a few employees to help serve.  Torchy's Catering went above and beyond to help me out and everyone went crazy for the food!

Sugar Mama's Bakeshop - These ladies recently won the Food Network's "Cupcake Wars" show.  They won my heart (and belly) a long time ago with their lemon cupcakes.  They make great cakes - large and small - and have a good variety of gluten free recipes to boot.  They just made the most delicious gluten free red velvet cake for my friend's birthday.  Truly impressive!

Your Wedding Your Way - I recently worked with Cara on a wedding and was impressed with her professionalism, organization, and GOOD HUMOR.  She can not only handle anything, she can handle it *and* stay mellow and nice.  Win/win!

XO Wedding Co. - Megan of XO was the coordinator on a wedding I performed in the Fall.  She did a great job and I was really impressed with all of the details.  Most memorable?  There was a small animal petting zoo at the event.  Adorable and a huge crowd pleaser!

Zinnia and Company - Leah Proctor is a friend of a friend and her work is just beautiful.   Take a look!

Exquisite Petals - Beth Richard, of Exquisite Petals, did the flowers in my friend's wedding and they were the most gorgeous wedding flowers I've seen.  Not a shy girl, my friend went with a bright orange and pink theme and the result was breathtaking.  Highly recommended!

Sarah Bork Hamilton - I like her because she's a South Austin mom named Sarah.  AND she's a really talented photographer!  She always gets the shot.

Austin Queer Weddings - This is my fun friend, Erica Nix's photography business.  She's got a great eye and fabulous energy.  Ask her about being in Richard Simmon's most recent workout video!

The Nichols:  A Husband + Wife Photo Team - Jennifer Nichols is another fun South Austin mom.  She and her husband have a fab photo biz and have been featured in some pretty hefty publications and blogs:  Martha Stewart, Style Me Pretty, Southern Weddings, etc.  Check them out!

Shelly Elena Photography - Shelly photographed a wonderful wedding that I performed at the Salt Lick in the Spring of 2014.  She captured the fun feel of the couple, the beautiful light, and all of the lovely details.  Highly recommend!  Check out the Salt Lick wedding photos here:

Annie Parish Photography - I was just introduced to Annie, a friend of my husband's cousin, who recently moved to Austin from Chicago.  Her portfolio is gorgeous - lots of sophisticated, beautiful images.  She prefers to shoot with film instead of digitally, giving you extra lush results.

Paige Newton Photography - Paige photographed my friend Rose's wedding (see the wedding photo on my home page).  Beautiful photos for a beautiful wedding!  Paige did a GREAT job.

Julia Robinson Photography - I worked with Julia on a very special wedding (see my blog post here) and she did a wonderful job capturing the color, motion, and general vibe of this perfect day!

Brandon Hill Stories -
Brandon was hired by a couple I worked with in the Fall of 2013 and he created a wonderful video, which went on to be featured on the wedding blog, Love 24 fps.  He's quite a storyteller!

The McKellars - I've worked with the McKellars on a few different weddings and they do an amazing job.  They are nice combination of relaxed and professional, and are open to making your vision come to life!  Check out Rhiannon & Richard's "The Best Day Ever"!

Photohouse Films - Photohouse Films did a phenomenal job of documenting Rosalyn & Christian's emotional wedding at Stonehouse Villa.  Highly recommend!

Jocelyn Connell - Jocelyn is fluent in Spanish and is able to provide thoughtful and classy translation to your ceremony!  We've worked together reading lines (me in English / Jocelyn in Spanish) and it was seamless and beautiful.  ALL guests were able to enjoy the ceremony!

Studio Slo Mo - I came across this cute little letterpress and design shop while participating in the East Austin Studio Tour.  They are officed in the cool Michael Hsu designed Canopy Project.  I've been looking for a local source for cool, creative invitations (other than me, of course, see below!) and this fits the bill perfectly.  The designs are clever, the colors are cool, and the products are beautiful.

The Den Archive - A friend turned me on to Justine Beech's quirky and charming illustrations.  A couple portrait would be a perfect reminder of your day!  Or, maybe, use one for your invitation or guest book?  Justine also goes on-site and would be a fun addition to your celebration.

Choco Logo - My college roommate and great friend, Bronwen Battaglia, works for this amazing chocolate factory in Buffalo, NY.  (She once dressed up as an Oompa Loompa for Halloween - cracks me up!)  They handmake all of these different flavors of chocolates with custom wrappers and they ship all over the U.S.!  Clients range from Bloomingdales to Bon Jovi!  Great gift idea.

Julie Konvicka - Julie is a friend and an amazing jeweler!  I own one of her rings and get complimented all of the time.  Check out her jewelry line for a fresh take on wedding jewelry!

Austin Social Dance -
I met Campbell, of Austin Social Dance, when she approached me about officiating her wedding.  I've since gotten to know her by teaching her yoga a time or two and can honestly say Campbell's GREAT!  She's very nice, approachable, and knows her stuff.  Let her help with the wedding dance jitters.

Travis Sebera
- I think it's always a good idea to meet with a counselor prior to marriage to discuss expectations and whatnot.  Travis is great!  Grooms and brides will both be comfortable with him.

Austin Party Bus - Want to do something different?  Get married on a bus!  Or, transport people to and from your event in style.  This business has locations throughout Texas, including Austin.

Austin Classic Limo - Want something exceptional for your getaway and photos?  This company provided the coolest car for one of my couple's Gatsby-themed wedding.  They also provide photography services, so kill two birds with one stone.  Check them out!

Exotic Limo Tours - A friend hired this limo for her sister's bachelorette party and raved about
Capt. Pete!  She said he took great care of them, eliminated stress, and delivered everyone to their home at the end.  5 stars!

Maraba Yoga -
Maraba DiRaddo is a friend and fellow South Austin yoga teacher who is a triple (or quadruple?) threat with her yoga, pilates, massage, and nutrition training.  She can guide you through some asanas and breathwork to calm the pre-wedding jitters, or consider having a "Bridal Bliss" party with some yummy essential oils and yoga.  She'll make you feel fab.

Julie Stone - Julie is a super friendly friend of a friend who has her own travel agency.  She just helped me find really awesome times and connections for a trip to Europe.  She's generous with her time and truly helpful.
Casa la Vista - Want something a little closer to home and totally private?  Rent my friend Wilma's guest house, Casa la Vista.  Nestled at the foot of the Glass Mountains in Marathon, Texas, this place is amazing.  (I lead yoga retreats here!)  In one 24 hour period I saw the most amazing sunrise, sunset, 4 rainbows, and one lightning storm.  What a cozy - and yet vast - place to enjoy your honeymoon.

Christopher Bean & Associates
  - My husband, Chris, and his firm are happy to help with any legal work you may need:  pre-nuptual agreements, wills, trusts, estates, domestic partnership agreements, etc.  Chris is great!

Zilker Insurance - Also run by my fab husband, Chris, Zilker Insurance can get your union off to a great start with some life, home, business or auto insurance.  You've invested this much, why not cover it?
