This weekend I had the honor of performing the first wedding onstage at Austin's infamous Esther's Follies. Evidently, they've had wedding receptions there before, but not an *actual* ceremony. The couple I married, April and Stephen, were looking for something fun and off the beaten path. As evidenced by the SPAM mural below, I'd say they found it!
The ceremony was onstage with the curtains open to 6th Street, so all of the passerby could gawk and participate. This added a certain "wild card" element, which is always entertaining. There was a queso bar before (YES!) while the bride was "sequestered in the Velveeta Room" (ha ha!). After the ceremony, everyone celebrated with a hot buffet and then had tickets to see the evening's performance. What a clever, cool wedding!
(Unfortunately, my phone died before I got a pic of the happy couple. They looked great. You'll have to take my word for it.)
